boy with chalkboardTransforming of the Mind

From the time you are in about fourth grade tell you graduate High School you are taught the ends and out of our government both on state and federal level. This is rightfully so, because in order to live in a country and thrive as an active, involved, and influential citizen you must learn how to function within that societies government and principles.

This is true within any society and government, and that is why it is so important that as citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven we learn the principles and the order of our kingdom government, that we may be able to function as active and influential citizens. Unfortunately, the challenge we have is that the ways and will of a republic government is in almost every way the opposite of a Kingdom Government. I firmly believe that this causes us to have a major hindrance in our success on earth as Kingdom Citizens. We think and act like a citizen of a republic government and innately want to transfer those same principles and ways of thinking to our citizenship of the Kingdom of God. This sets us up for sure failure to function as citizens of heaven on earth. We fight, we struggle, we question, we doubt, we spin our wheels and wonder why we can’t walk in victory in the Kingdom of Heaven. The ways and will of a Republic government has been so ingrained in us, that it requires a renewing of the mind and a repentive heart to bring us in line with our King and His kingdom government. We must transform from the way we think as citizens of our earthly government into how God ordained us to think and function as citizens of a heavenly kingdom.

This transformation would almost be impossible if it wasn’t for the help of the governor of the Kingdom of Heaven. Now as soon as I said governor I almost guarantee that everyone reading this would recognize that term as to how it defines the governor of your state. Most adults might immediately know the name of your state governor, ours in Ohio is John Kasich. However, I want to inform you on how the roles of our state governor and the roles of our Kingdom governor our different.

State Governors represent the people of their state, their needs, wants, and desires, on a federal level. They uphold state legislation as well as pursue new state legislation that is for the better of their state citizens. They are elected from the people of the state and come from that state. Their roles are temporary as they can be voted in and out.

However a governor of a kingdom has a very different role quite the opposite of our state governors. The governor of a Kingdom is sent from the Kingdom headquarters to a colony, a land not attached to the main kingdom but under authority of that kingdom. They are sent to represent the Kings will and desire within that colony, influencing the citizens to act like and be like the original kingdom. They are not elected by the people and cannot be voted out of office. You can see the influence even today of America being once a colony of Britain.

The Kingdom of Heaven is no different than an earthly King as it has a governor as well. The governor of the Kingdom of Heaven doesn’t represent us as citizens he represent Jesus as the King of Heaven. He is from heaven sent to earth as a representative of heaven to ensure the will and intent of the King is done. This is not a temporary role.

spirit governorThe Holy Spirit-Our Governor

If you have not already guessed the governor of the Kingdom of Heaven is the Holy Spirit. Hebrews 12:2 tells us that Jesus is at the right hand of the throne of God. Heaven is what you might call our “federal” government headquarters and earth is a colony or an extension of the Kingdom that is not connected by land mass. God and Jesus are in heaven and they needed someone on earth to make sure that the intent of the King is played out with the citizens.

John 16:7 Jesus said, “Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you”. The Holy Spirit was sent from heaven to represent the King as the governor. He is our helper on earth to influence us to look like and act like a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven. Without Him on earth it would be impossible to walk successfully as citizens of heaven.

The role of the governor is to act as the presence of the King and His Kingdom influencing people with the will, intent and purpose of the King. In other words, the very nature and character of the King is to be manifested in the citizens of a colony through the governor. So we see the number one role of the governor of the Kingdom of Heaven is

  1. To be our Teacher

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (John 14:26, NKJV). In John 16:13, Jesus says that the Holy Spirit will lead us to all truth. We cannot understand the truth about the King we serve or His Kingdom without the Holy Spirit. In Galatians 5:22-23, we read, “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” This fruit is the character and nature of our King and His Kingdom, and through the Holy Spirit we have the ability to produce this fruit and be changed into the likeness of our King.

The Holy Spirit as the governor of the Kingdom of Heaven is not only the Teacher of the King

  1. He is the Power of the King

We read, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you” (Acts 1:8, NKJV).  Jesus’ followers waited in the upper room; Jesus knew they would need the Holy Spirit in order to be witnesses for God’s Kingdom. The Holy Spirit has the power of the King to create change on earth. Jesus himself was resurrected by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit, as the governor, possesses the power of the King. Jesus said to the disciples, “He (the Holy Spirit) will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you” (John 16:14, NKJV). We no longer have Jesus on this earth, but Jesus has sent us a governor, God’s spirit, who gives us all of heaven. The Spirit of God will give you the gifts of heaven—the gifts of the Spirit written about in 1 Corinthians 12:4; these gifts give us the power to influence ourselves and others with the Kingdom of Heaven. Through this power of the spirit, you have the power to change and the power to change others.

  1. The great voice and communicator of Heaven

“For He (the Holy Spirit) will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come” (John 16:13, NKJV). The Governor of the Kingdom of Heaven is not only our access to heaven, but the communicator between us and heaven. When the Holy Spirit speaks, it is as if the King Himself is speaking. Through the Spirit, we can hear Jesus, our King, speaking to us. Not only does the Holy Spirit speak to us for the King, he also can speak from us to the King as it says in Romans 8:26, “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Since the Governor of the Kingdom of Heaven knows the King and His Kingdom more than we ever will—at least until we are in heaven ourselves—he knows exactly what we should say to the King. As the Holy Spirit dwells on the inside of us, we can allow Him, through our spirit, to speak to the King for us. This is the gift of speaking in unknown tongues. The Governor of the Kingdom not only helps us communicate to God, but He also helps us speak as the King desires us to speak. This is what happened when the disciples were captured into the hands of the authorities as they preached the gospel (Matthew 10:19-20).

  1. The presence of the King

We know that heaven is somewhere above the earth and that God and Jesus live in heaven, but how do we as citizens of heaven stay connected to our King and His Kingdom? The Holy Spirit, as the Governor of the Kingdom, is our connection to heaven. The Holy Spirit is the most important person on this earth today. Without Him, we have no access to heaven, our Kingdom or our King. God is not here with us; Jesus is not here with us, but the Holy Spirit, the governor of the Kingdom, is here with us! John 14:17 says, “He (the Holy Spirit) dwells with you and will be in you.” The Holy Spirit allows us to feel the reality of the living God since we cannot actually see Him. That is why often times when the presence of the Spirit is magnified in the room you feel differently. You may feel warmth all over you, may feel chill bumps, you may feel joy, an overwhelming since of Love, You may feel wind, or even heat like fire. You may want to cry or laugh. We touch the spirit and the spirit touches us as if we are touching Jesus and God. If you loved someone but never touch them or felt their presence how would that make you feel? Would you eventually grow distant from them and fall out of love with them? Physical touch is a very important part of a relationship and that is why the presence of the Holy Spirit is so important in our lives.

May you find yourself under the influence of the governor of our kingdom!

In Christ,

Alicia White
